2020 Eagle Raceway Modified Champ Jordan Grabouski
By Greg Soukup
The Icebreaker Challenge is just a couple of sleeps away! So, as the final preview to the racing season I chatted with last year’s IMCA Modified champion at Eagle Raceway, Jordan Grabouski.
I am constantly amazed that Jordan, despite numerous NUMEROUS championships, both at tracks all over and state and national crowns in IMCA, how humble and down to earth he is. He may have great equipment, but besides that he’s just another dirt track racer; the kind you can meet any night at your local dirt venue.
As an example of this, when I inquired how many titles last year’s win made it he stated “You know, honestly, I don’t know!”. So I said “It’s a bunch in a row, I know” and he said “Is it?? I really don’t know for sure, but it’s probably a handful I guess, but I know that it’s always good to win there at Eagle. It maybe doesn’t register because we didn’t have a banquet or anything”. (Because of the COVID-19 pandemic the banquet was cancelled and rescheduled to this past Sunday April 11th).
His time this winter was highlighted by the arrival of a new baby. “Yep, we have 2 little girls now, so it’s been a REALLY busy off-season! It’s been a crazy 2020/2021. We had our daughter in December, so 2020 wasn’t all bad. I don’t know how 2021 could get any better, but we’re looking forward to this year”.
I asked if he was all ready to go racing and he said “We are actually. Ready to get back to business! The weather’s getting nicer, and everybody’s getting the itch. I love running at Eagle. It’s cool! They’ve got the best fans in the world and the atmosphere is unbelievable”.
His plans for this season? “We’re going to bring both our stock car and modified to Eagle Raceway every Saturday night of course, so it will be a really fun summer”.
When asked if he was going for 2 championships at Eagle this year he stated “We’ll start out the season and see how it goes”.
“I just want to thank all the people who help me get to the track each year. Josh, Merle, Jackson, Durham and Jake plus everybody involved. My wife of course”. So, as you can see for yourself, Jordan is just a regular guy who is very, VERY good at his chosen sport; dirt track racing. Be sure to stop by his pit after the races and shake hands with him; you won’t be disappointed.
