2020 SportMod Champion Cole Wayman is gearing up for double duty in 2021

Wow! We finally may be out of winter’s clutches, and none too soon since the season opening Icebreaker Challenge is just over 4 weeks away!

With that in mind, and to both keep your racing juices flowing and to recognize a few of last year’s class champions it’s time to interview those racers.

First off is Cole Wayman who won the IMCA Northern Sportmod crown.

At 18, Cole is currently studying diesel technology at Southeast Community College but is anxiously anticipating race season.

Cole inherited his love of racing from his father Dan who raced sprint cars. “Once dad got in a wreck back in 2009 he pretty much called it quits and got me started”.

So, his passion started long ago. “I think my first full season in go-karts was 2011. Then I started racing a full modified in 2016 and then began racing full time in a sportmod in 2017”.

This was also not his first championship. “This was my first racing in IMCA, but I previously got one racing modifieds down in Kansas City, Missouri in 2016 because I wasn’t old enough to race with IMCA yet”.

Cole’s plans for this coming season are to race both a sportmod and a stock car since that class is being added at Eagle Raceway.

Continuing to help sponsor his racing endeavors are Theron Ahlman at Modern Real Estate, Brookelyn’s Hair and Replacement, Uribe Refuse and Scrap Tires and Jet Racing Chassis. New sponsors this year are Classic Wood of Lincoln and Baker Gutter Services and Cleaning.

I know that he will be successful, hopefully in both classes.
