Wayman, Ware, Grossenbacher, Saathoff & Cronin Celebrate Victories at “America’s Home Track

With just 2 nights of racing left in the regular season and 5 points championships on the line the fans who showed up at Eagle Raceway Saturday night for Fast Cars & Bright Stars Night, presented by Rotella’s and Great Clips knew that they were going to be treated to lots of great racing and nobody left disappointed.
Gunnar Pike went for a wild ride in the first heat for the IMCA Racesaver sprints when his #25 hit the turns 1 & 2 wall and ended up on his side. He was taken to the hospital for observation but is expected to make a full recovery.
Brandon Baker’s 7B led lap #1 of the Coors Light IMCA Sportmod finale with James Hines in the 31R, Steffen Oaks’ 17X and the 30 of Taylor Metz on his rear bumper. Oaks moved up to second on lap 2 with Dion Kovar putting the 18 in third and Cole Wayman taking the 4th spot. The action slowed the next time around when Nick Morris’ 11H and the 5H of Shawn Hein came to a halt in turns 3 and 4. Kovar jumped to the lead on the restart with Arie Schouten moving to fourth in the 99RE. Oaks spun in turn 2 the following lap, collecting Schouten. At that time, it was Kovar, Baker, Gary Saathoff and Wayman the top 4. Wayman vaulted up to second on the restart with the 25 of Joe Feyen moving to fourth. Wayman continued to advance, taking the lead with 10 to go. Adam Vrbka put the 7V into fourth with 4 to go and moved to third 2 laps later. The final top 4 were Wayman, Kovar, Vrbka and Feyen.
The Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stock main event saw Ben Becher’s B4 out front of lap 1 with the 11B of Brett Saathoff, Albert Kiihne’s 85 and Nick Beckman in the 22 close behind. The yellow lap flew on lap 2 for debris in turn 2. Jamie Richards put the 67 into fourth on the restart. Kiihne and Richards both passed Saathoff the next lap with Jeff Ware also getting past Saathoff the following circuit to put the 83 into fourth. Richards passed Kiihne after another lap and got around Becher the next time around as Ware moved to second. The following circuit saw the red flag fly as Cole Krichau’s 30K pulled to the infield with a fire under the hood. The fire was quickly extinguished, and the racing continued. Ware grabbed the lead with 10 to go as Brooke Fluckiger put the 2B into third. Mike Hansen grabbed the fourth spot in his 94 2 laps later. The final change in the top 4 came 3 laps later as Richards moved back to second making the top 4 Ware, Richards, Fluckiger and Hansen.
Jared Deterding’s 13J, the V45 of Rik Gropp, Bob Ruisinger’s 7 and the 3T of Nate Thompson were the first 4 back to the flag stand in the Nebraska Lottery IMCA Modified feature. Thompson passed Ruisinger for third on lap 2. Gropp took over the lead the next time around as Justin Wulf jumped up to third in the 86. Johnny Saathoff put the 96J into fourth after another lap. Ruisinger spun to the infield of turn 4 after another circuit. Wulf and Saathoff both moved up a spot on the restart. Saathoff got past Wulf 2 laps later with Dan Nelson putting the 19XX into fourth. Saathoff grabbed the lead after 1 more circuit. Anthony Roth spun the 60IV coming out of turn 4 with 8 to go, collecting the 24T of Terry Hurt. Jordan Grabouski put the 30 into fourth with 8 laps remaining and moved to third the next time around as Shane Hiatt put the 21H into fourth. Grabouski advanced to second the next lap. Mike Densberger put his #81 into fourth after another circuit. Hiatt moved up to second on the final circuit to make the top 4 Saathoff, Hiatt, Grabouski and Densberger.
The ATV Motorsports IMCA Sport Compact A’s first circuit was led by the 10J of Jeremy Bohlen followed by Tyler Masek in the 23B, Devin Bruce’s 52D and Dan Markham’s 6. Masek moved to the lead on lap 2 with Bruce following him into second. Tim Horsham cracked the top 4 the next time around in the 3 and moved up to third after another lap. Brian Cronin put the 35 into fourth the following circuit. Bruce grabbed the lead the next time around as Cronin jumped up to second 2 laps later. Horsham moved up to third the next lap with the 19 of Dillon Richards taking over fourth. Cronin advanced to first with 6 to go. Richards advanced to third the next time around and moved up to second after 2 more circuits. The top 4 were Cronin, Richards, Bruce, and Horsham.
The Duros Dent Works IMCA Racesaver Sprint Car A Main’s first lap was called off as the side panel from the nose wing of Toby Chapman’s 7 came off and was laying in turn 1. Dan Nekolite’s 10D, Brandon Horton in the 1B, the 12K of Troy Sanford and Trevor Grossenbacher in the 35 were the first 4 when a lap was officially in the books. Grossenbacher moved up to third the next circuit with Horton taking over the lead. Grossenbacher advanced to second on lap 6 and took the lead the next time around with Sanford taking over third and the 76 of Jay Russell moving up to fourth. From there to the finish it was a matter of the gap between Grossenbacher and second place as he held nearly a half lap lead at the checkers. The final top 4 were Grossenbacher, Horton, Sanford, and Russell.
Be sure to come out next weekend as Nebraska Lottery and Coors Light present the Eagle Shootout. This is the final race of the 2020 season and with all 5 divisions battling for supremacy in the points battles, the competition will be furious and most likely will not be decided until the final lap of the respective features.
Front gates open at 5:00 with hot laps at 5:30 and racing at 6:30. Front gate adult admission is $12, youths 6-12 are just $5 and children 5 and under are free. All 5 classes will be competing including the Duros Dent Works Sprint Cars, Nebraska Lottery Modifieds, Coors Light SportMods, Valentino’s Hobby Stocks & ATV Motor Sports Sport Compacts.
Pit gates open at 3:30 with pit passes costing $30.
