Danley, Saathoff, Richards, Grabouski & Hall celebrate Mother’s Day weekend with WINS!

After having caused 3 cancellations out of the first 4 race nights, Mother Nature let up a little Saturday night as the Nebraska Lottery presented Ladies Night. Sunny skies and temperatures in the 70’s led to a cool night with the winds we’ve all grown accustomed to.

The good sized crowd was treated to 158 cars running 19 heats, 7 preliminary features, all topped off with 5 A Features.

There was only 1 serious incident in the heat races. Gene Ackland ended up flipping his 14G in turn 4during the second heat for the Twin Rivers IMCA Racesaver Sprints. He was not badly injured, but his racer was damaged too badly to return to the action.

Hunter Wergin led lap #1 of the A1 Iron IMCA Stock Car A Feature with Nate Thompson’s 3T, the 30 of Jordan Grabouski and Gary Laflin’s 9 rounding out the top 4. Lap 2 saw Grabouski move to second as Jeff Ware put the #83 into fourth. Cade Richards passed Ware the next time around, moving the 1R into fourth place. Grabouski grabbed the lead the next circuit with Richards jumping to second on lap 6 with Thompson third and the 63 of Mike Nichols fourth. Nichols got past Thompson the next time around for third. Tim Horsham looped the #3 in turns 3 & 4 on lap 10 for a caution. 2 laps after the restart Jeremy Bohlen spun the 10J in turns 3 & 4 to slow the action again. Horsham again spun out on the restart, coming to a halt on the backstretch, collecting the 5ELI for another caution. From there to the finish the top 4 remained unchanged with Grabouski winning, Richards second, Thompson third and the 22Sof Shane Stutzman who charged to fourth in the closing laps.

Due to the cold temperatures, Grabouski left before being interviewed.

The Avid Realty IMCA Sportmod A Main’s first circuit saw Derek Hall’s 44D, the 6SJ of Shawn Pospisil, Jacob Slough’s 15 and the 6M of Matt McAtee the first four back to the flag stand. Noah Williams passed McAtee on lap 2 to put the 27W into fourth. Ryan Arbogast jumped the 2 all the way up to third the next lap with Slough holding fourth. Williams regained the fourth spot the next time around. Arbogast moved up to second the next circuit. The final change in the top 4 came on lap 10 as Gary Saathoff put the 96 into fourth. The final top 4 were Hall, Arbogast, Saathoff and Williams.

“It was a pretty good run actually. The track had some character tonight but hats off to Roger for putting the time in to let us race tonight. There’s been a lot of tracks around the Midwest that have cancelled this weekend due to all the rain, so I’m thankful for that for sure! We didn’t have a very good showing the first night, so we went back to the drawing board. We had two weeks to do it because we got rained out again last week. So, we spent those two weeks going over the car and found some things here and there that needed to be changed. It was pretty good tonight. I want to thank my crew also. Jared, Joe Scheidler and my cousin”. Derek’s sponsors include Corey and Ben at BBR Shocks, Ben at Only Pro, ABC Printing, Omaha Mail, Custom Countertops, Battery Systems and Brad and Nicky.

The Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stocks were up next. Roy Armstrong led lap 1 in the 6R, followed by Ryan Gilland’s 46, the 10 of Brad Schreiner and Brint Lemke’s 26L. The yellow flag flew on lap 4 for debris on the track. Dave Carter put the 2C into fourth on the restart but was passed by Dillon Richards in the 24R on lap 9. Dillon moved up to third with 10 to go and advanced to second the next circuit. Claton Peters looped the 11 in turn 4 with 6 to go for another caution. Richards took over the lead with 3 laps left as Schreiner moved to third. Richards came home first with Armstrong second, Schreiner third and Carter fourth.

Richards’ victory was his second out of 2 races at Eagle this year, coming from eighth on the starting grid. “I knew that I just had to avoid the ruts and stay to the top side to catch Roy, because he’s fast once he gets out front. Roger does a heck of a job just giving us a place to race, so I want to thank him for his hard work in even getting the track in shape so we can do this. It was rough, but we all had to race on the same surface”. Richards’ sponsors include Fester’s Bait & Tackle, Inline Healing, Jet Racing, Jordan Grabouski Racing, S&L Trenching, Hamilton Construction and Stinger Race Engines.

The Nebraska Lottery IMCA Modifieds then took to the high banks for their Main Event. Terry Hurt led lap 1 in his 24T with Clint Homan’s 27, the 96 of Jaxxon Saathoff and Trey Duensing in the 3D close behind. Lap 2 saw Hurt slam headlong into the implement tire guarding the pit entrance and the red lights were lit in the corners. That made the top 4 Homan, Saathoff, Nate Thompson in the 3T and the 5S of Bob Zoubek. Zoubek passed Thompson for third on the restart. Saathoff got around Homan for the lead on lap 6, lost the position back to Homan the next lap and retook the lead 2 circuits later. Duensing stopped at the top of turn 1 with 10 laps to go, putting the 8C of Chad Andersen in fourth. John Saathoff went past Andersen the next lap and advanced to third the next time around before taking over second place with 5 to go. The final top 4 were Jaxxon Saathoff, John Saathoff, Homan and Zoubek.

Jaxxon also loaded up before giving an interview.

The finale was the A Feature for the Two Rivers IMCA Racesaver Sprints. Cole Vanderheiden’s 15V was out front on lap 1 with Jake Galusha’s 2E, Adam Gullion in the 91 and the 5A of Andrew Jackson hot on his push bumper. Mitchell Moore jumped up to second on lap 2, putting Gullion in third and Vanderheiden fourth. Jason Danley’s 4X came to a halt in turns 3 & 4 on lap 3 and the yellow flag came out. At that time, it was Galusha, Moore, Gullion and Vanderheiden. Stu Snyder got past Vanderheiden on lap 5 to move up to fourth. 2 more circuits were in the books when Toby Chapman looped the #11 on the front stretch to slow the action again. Joey Danley put his #14 into fourth with 13 laps left, grabbed third the next time around and moved up to second with 8 circuits left before grabbing the lead the following lap. The final top 4 were Joey Danley, Moore, Galusha and Snyder.

Joey’s run came from the 11th starting spot. “It started to slicken off about halfway through and that’s when I got moving. I passed 2 or 3 in the first half of the race then started picking them off a little faster after that. The track was definitely elbows up and I think that’s part of what helped me win the race. Once the leaders caught the lapped traffic it was just hard to maneuver and that helped me catch them. I was lucky enough to squeak by them all”. Joey’s sponsors include Empire Fence, The Wave, My Salesman, Nissen Hardwood Floors, Automotive Services and Onyx Digital Group.

Next weekend is Junior Fan Club Night, presented by Moms Popcorn and Avid Realty. Children 12 and under receive free admission. The Sam’s Club Candy Dash will be held at intermission

All 5 classes will be in competition including the Twin Rivers Sprint Cars, Nebraska Lottery Modifieds, Avid Realty SportMods, Valentino’s Hobby Stocks & A1 Iron Stock Cars.

 

Front gates open at 5:15 with adult admission being $15.

Pit gates open at 3:30 with pit passes costing $30. Hot laps begin at 5:30.
