Olson, Beckman, Bade, Andersen & Roschewski are victorious at Livin’ Life Full Thottle!

Olson, Beckman, Bade, Andersen & Roschewski are victorious at Livin’ Life Full Thottle!

By Greg Soukup

Saturday evening at Eagle Raceway was Livin’ Life Full Throttle Night, presented by Quasar Drive-in and Empire Fence. The night was extra special in several ways. I’m sure that most of you have heard of the passing of Stan Cisar, former announcer at numerous area race tracks as well as Eagle Raceway, great friend to all and a sprint car owner in addition to being a huge supporter of the sport that we all love. There were 2 classes that had an increased payout. In the A1 Iron IMCA Stock Car Class Trout Painting upped the amount to $547 and the top amount for the Avid Realty IMCA Sportmods was increased to $1105 and the starting money was increased to $155.

As you can imagine, the pits were full with the regular competitors as well as numerous outside invaders who came to tackle the high banks of America’s Home Track in hopes of a big payday.

There were no serious incidents in any of the classes.

At intermission the young fans that brought their bicycles were allowed to race around Mini E Raceway.

The first A Feature was for the A1 Iron IMCA Stock Cars. Riley Ruisinger put the #7 out front of lap 1 with the 6K of Roger Elliot second, the 5J of Jakob Boucher third and Ryan Harris’ 49 fourth. Lap 2 saw Harris pass Jakob Boucher for third and Tommy Etherton also got past Jakob for fourth in the #24T. There was a big jumble of cars in turns 3 and 4 on lap 3 when Etherton got loose and going through the infield. That allowed Elliot to regain the fourth spot. Lap 4 saw Jakob Boucher spin in turns 3 and 4 to bring out the yellow flag. That moved Harris up to second, with Elliot third and th3 66 of Jeff Watts advanced to fourth. The action slowed again on the restart as Marty Steinbach spun in turns 3 and 4, collecting the 17TK of Travis Patterson. Elliot smacked the front stretch wall hard on the restart and the yellow lights were again lit in the corners. That moved Beckman to third and Watts to fourth. Dan Jackson’s 3 came to a halt in turn 2 on the restart and was pushed back to the pits with a flat tire. Jeff Watts pulled off on the restart after what appeared to be a cooling system failure but the action continued with Arie Schouten putting the 99RE into fourth but lost the spot back to Etherton the next time around. Mike Scheinost spun his #51 just off the track coming out of turn 4 to slow the action again on lap 8. Harris got high in turns 3 and 4 on the restart, allowing Beckman to advance to second place. Etherton also passed Harris the following lap to take over third. Etherton, Harris and Beckman went three wide in turn 4 the following circuit, going door handle to door handle with Etherton jumping up to second, Harris taking third and Beckman falling to fourth. With 8 to go, Etherton spun to the infield coming out of turn 4, moving Beckman to third and putting the 55X of Tim Drake into fourth. Schouten made contact with Beckman in turns 3 and 4 with 7 to go, eventually spinning out in 4 to bring out the caution. It was announced that the next flag would end the race. With 2 to go Harris made contact with Ruisinger, causing the #7 to spin out on the front stretch. Sadly, Ruisinger was sent to the rear of the field for bringing out the caution as was Harris for causing the incident. That ended the race. Beckman won, Drake was second, JJ Baumli was third in the #46 with fourth place being Dylan Haney’s 12X.

This was Nick’s second win in an IMCA Stock Car at Eagle. He said “It was a race! It was a race of survival tonight and somehow I was able to come out on top. I feel bad for Ruisinger because I think Riley should have gotten that one. But, things happen. I’ve had bad luck come my way too, so hopefully next week he can get a win. Otherwise, I want to thank Roger for a great track. It was smooth tonight and I liked it. It was a bottom track, and I like that. I have to send a shout out to all of my helpers, my family, Cash, Nick Danley who’s my #1 guy and Jason Applebee”. Nick’s sponsors include Ace Electric, Performance 66, Otte Oil and Propane, BBR Racing, S&L Trenching, The Neighbors, The Beverage Connection, Ron Fox Motorsports and Extreme.

The Nebraska Septic IMCA Racesaver main event’s first lap saw Michael Voeltz’s 23V out front with the 31 of Koby Werkmeister second, Shayle Bade third in the 03 and Bill Garrow’s 3G fourth. Bade advanced to second on lap 2 as Chad Koch took over the fourth spot in the 11. Jason Danley put the 4X into fourth the next time around. Danley moved up to third on lap 9, moving Voeltz to fourth. Cole Vanderheiden put the 15V into fourth on lap 11. Bade went around Werkmeister on lap 14 to snag the lead. Eight laps remained when Stu Snyder passed Vanderheiden for fourth and moved up to third 2 laps later. Vanderheiden came to a halt atop the implement tire at the bottom of turn 2 with 5 circuits remaining, bringing out the yellow flag and eliminating the lapped traffic. From there to the checkered flag Bade and Werkmeister traded slide jobs with first Werkmeister then Bade leading, but the top 4 remained unchanged with Bade first, Werkmeister second, Snyder third and Danley fourth.

Shayle came into the night leading the national IMCA Racesaver points, while running second to Gunnar Pike in the Nebraska points race while holding down the fourth spot at Eagle Raceway. She beat me to the punch when she walked up to me and stated “It’s about time! It’s been a long while and this one, if you were here it was slide job after slide job and in the end, it was who wanted it more. I started third row outside, but the first lap I think I was already in third and Koby Werkmeister was ahead of me and I just knew that I had to have patience, drive my race, hit my line and just wait for everything to happen. Tonight it happened in our favor. Especially after the caution because usually cautions don’t happen at the right time for me when I need them, but tonight I really needed that caution. It was kind of one lane, right at the top. I tried going low but couldn’t get around a lapped car. We had a caution, I got some clean air which was really nice and then it was green/white/checkered from there. I think we only had 5 laps to go and it was slide job after slide job. Whoever hit the last slide job was going to win it. This was my first win since I lost my Dad. That makes this a pretty special win right here, and I know he’s smiling down from above. Also, 2 weeks ago Jacob and Shawna Dye were in a UTV accident, so this win was for Dad and Shawna”. Shayle’s sponsors include Helget Construction LLC, HomeShield Roofing & Exteriors, Pyrogasm Fireworks, Carpetland, Restore A Muscle Car, Shawn Bigler, Scoops  Lincoln, Rowe’s Graphics Page and Onyx Wraps.

The Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stocks were then up for their A Main. Ian Roschewski took off from the pole to lead lap 1 in the 2, the 10 of Brad Schreiner, Kenny Roberts’ 69 and the 3N of Neil Pella. Lap 2 saw Ben Becher loop the B4 in turns 1 and 2 for a caution. Roberts moved up to second on the restart as Tanner Jones passed Pella to put the 12T into fourth. Lap 7 saw Schreiner regain the second spot. Schreiner began to close on Roschewski with 7 to go running the cushion while Roschewski stayed on the bottom. Despite the furious battle Roschewski held on for the victory, Schreiner was second, Roberts third and Jones fourth.

This was Ian’s first victory at Eagle Raceway in this, his fourth year in the class and second year in what he called ‘A Good Hobby Stock’. He continued by saying “We put some work into building a brand new car at the beginning of last year and seem to have finally figured it out. I started on the pole, so that helped a lot, but all that counts is leading until the last one. That is the one that counts! You have to hold them all back, and that definitely wasn’t easy. I want to thank my Dad because he puts in a lot of work for me, Heath and Renee for letting me keep my car in their shop and work on it. Also my girlfriend Jaesa. Normally I work on Saturday and she does a nut and bolt check for me”. Ian’s sponsors include Amsoil, R/EAL Accounting LLC, Michael’s Appliance, Josh and Crystal Houseman, Andy Thies Land Agent – Burrows Tracts, Hoops Chiropractic, Huls Body Shop, Jim’s Carpet, Renee’s Painting, Murphey Squirrel Farm, Carla, Sprakel Goat Farm, Midwest Regional Agency, Aero Bungee Fitness, Extreme Motorsports Decal Signs and Adam’s Optical Fashion.

Aaron Pella put the 3A in the lead on lap 1 of the Nebraska Lottery Feature, followed by Terry Richards in the 18, Dustin Andersen’s 8A and the 27 of Clint Homan rounding out the top 4. Nate Thompson looped his 3T in 1 and 2 on the next lap for a caution. Shawn Harker passed Homan on the restart to take fourth in his #40 but lost the spot back to Homan the next time around. Chad Andersen spun the 8C in turns 1 and 2the following lap. Dustin Andersen used the restart to charge into the lead as Homan moved up to third. Harker passed Richards for fourth place 2 laps later, then moved around Pella for third place after 2 more laps were in the books. John Saathoff’s 96J stopped at the wall coming out of turn 4 with 10 circuits left for another caution. Mike Densberger used the restart to get around Pella on the outside to grab fourth and passed Harker for third the next lap. Harker took back fourth the following lap. Dustin Andersen kept it on the bottom of the track to come home first at the checkers with Homan second, Harker third and Densberger fourth.

He related “It’s been a long time. It was a good run. The track was a little different tonight. I feel like it was dominant on the bottom, so we got down there and did what we needed to do to win. It definitely makes it easier, starting towards the front. After the heat race I didn’t think we had a shot at winning because we were way too tight. We freed the car up a little bit and that was just what we needed. I was just going to hug the bottom and unless I saw someone pressuring me I would move somewhere else. It’s Eagle! You never know what’s going to happen, so you just have to go with it and hit your marks”. Dustin’s sponsors include Flatfoot Trucking, Nebraska’s Best Lawn and Landscape, Stumpy’s Graphics, Baker Boys Racing, Mia Clean Bins and Legendscapes.

Last out for their A Feature were the Avid Realty IMCA Sportmods. Zane Woodman’s 73Z was first back to the flag stand on lap 1 with the 18 of Dion Kovar second, Lance Borgman in the 76 third and the 18M of Mason Richards fourth. Lap 2 saw Geoff Olson pass Richards for fourth in his 2G and pass Borgman for third the next time around. Olson continued his march to the front the following lap, passing Kovar for second and taking the lead on lap 5. Borgman passed Kovar for third on lap 7. 2 laps later Cole Wayman put his 18W into fourth. Borgman advanced to second on lap 10. Kovar regained fourth place the next lap. Borgman passed Woodman for second the next time around. Kovar moved up to third 2 laps later. The next lap saw Woodman spin out at the bottom of turn 4 to erase what had become a big lead by Olson and moving  Wayman back into the fourth position. With 5 laps to go Kovar slowed in turn 2 and came to rest on the back stretch and went to his pit on the hook. That moved Wayman back up to third and put the 93SS of Chad Shaw into fourth. Shaw advanced to third the next lap. Just 2 laps were left when Lee Horky looped the #7 in turn 2 to set up a green/white/checkers finish. Wayman managed to use the low side in 3 and 4 on the final lap to pass Shaw for third. The final top 4 were Olson, Borgman, Wayman and Shaw.

Geoff ran at Eagle Raceway over 11 years ago and even won the track championship in 2012. “I’m so appreciative of everyone who chipped in to increase the top prize tonight. I can’t believe that we were able to come down from Sioux City and get it done. I had a great experience racing here weekly. Everything fell right tonight, coming down to make this special trip. I have to thank my crew that helps me out. My Dad, Braydon and Jamie. Especially my wife Jamie who is back home with our 6 month old baby.”. Geoff’s sponsors include GRT Race Cars, S&S Motorsports, BSB Manufacturing, Pi Promotions, Your Sports Show and Artworks Graphics.
