Richards, Kitchen, Richards, Grabouski & Andrews win at Eagle Raceway’s Jr Fan Club Night

Richards, Kitchen, Richards, Grabouski & Andrews win at Eagle Raceway’s Jr Fan Club Night

By Greg Soukup

If you didn’t come out to Eagle Raceway Saturday for Junior Fan Club Night, presented by Avid Realty, you truly missed out. It was a perfect evening for all of the fans who did show up with clear blue skies and a cool north breeze.

One of the highlights had nothing to do with racing; it was the free race car rides at intermission where all of the youngsters who wanted one were treated to a lap around the high banks in a real race car.

There were no serious incidents in the preliminary racing.

Matt Boucher steered the 5B to the lead on the first lap of the A1 Iron IMCA Stock Car Feature with Dan Jackson in the 3AM, Bob Ruisinger’s 7 and Nick Beckman in the 22 rounding out the top 4. Jackson passed Boucher the next time around to grab the lead. Jeremy Bohlen in the 10J and Austin Boucher’s 5A spun to a halt in turns 1 & 2 on lap 5 for a caution. Lap 6 saw Cade Richards put the 1R into fourth place and advance to third the next lap. The following circuit saw Kyle Vanover grab fourth in the 19. Matt Boucher regained the lead with 10 to go. Richards spun out in turns 1 & 2 after contact with another racer and Jackson headed to the pits. At that time, the top 4 were Matt Boucher, Vanover, Beckman and the 30 of Jordan Grabouski. Grabouski moved up to third on the restart and advanced to second the next time around. Jeff Ware put his #83 into fourth with 7 to go. Tyler Jackson’s 13 spun out in turn 2 the following circuit. Grabouski took over the lead with 5 circuits left but pulled to a stop on the backstretch the following lap as Vanover headed to the pits. That made the top 4 Matt Boucher, Ware, Beckman and Richards who had made his way up after restarting at the back of the field. Ware snagged the top spot the next time around as Richards advanced to third. Richards took the second spot the following circuit and Nate Thompson put the 3T into fourth place. A caution came out and slowed the action with 2 laps to go. Richards took advantage of the restart to move up to first and held it to the checkers for the win. Ware was second, Matt Boucher third and Thompson fourth.

Cade said “Everybody that stopped by after the races talked about how I had passed all of those cars, come from the back and won it and did it cleanly without wrecking anybody. They all congratulated me on how good of a race it was. I think that we were the fastest car here tonight. I was the only one able to run the bottom and that was the faster line. I thought that it was inevitable for me to get the win. It was going to happen even though I got spun out early. I was the fastest one out there and passed everybody back. It was just a really good night, we hit the setup right and the car was really good. I can’t than everybody on the crew  enough for what they do for me”. Cade’s sponsors include Tilton Engineering, Jones Racing Products, CP-Carrillo, J & K Trucking Jeff Stefonick, Jet Racing, Bob Harris Enterprises, SCAT Crankshafts, Jen Cook Enterprises , Subway of 27th & I80 and 27th & Superior, The Lincoln Capitol Group, ROTO Reef, Subway of West Point Pender, & Tekamah, Subway of Columbus & David City, Subway of Beatrice Tecumseh & Auburn, Raw Materials, Subway of Norfolk & Pierce, Dynamic Drivelines, QualCast LLC, JAZ Products, Wehrs Machine & Racing Products, Cliff Thingstad Trucking, Swift Springs, Unified Employee Benefits, Filley Custom Powder Coating, Race Tech Info, Extreme Motorsports Decal Signs, McLaughlin Masonry, College View Auto Sales, CRR Technology, Richards Machine , Tony Orender, and Randy Husak.

Bobby Draper’s 62, the 44 of McClain Reed, the 6SJ of Shawn Pospisil and Noah Williams in the 27W were the first four back to the flag stand on lap 1 of the Avid Realty IMCA Sportmod A. Reed hit the wall in turns 1 & 2 on lap 4 moving Davis to second, Pospisil third with Dion Kovar putting the 18 in fourth. Kovar passed Pospisil for third the following lap with Joe Feyen also getting past Pospisil to put the 25X into fourth. Matt Andrews passed Feyen for fourth the next circuit in his 22. Andrews advanced to third on lap 8 and moved up to second the next time around. Breanna Pfanstiel looped her 33B in turns 3 & 4 with 9 to go for a caution. Andrews took over the lead and held on for the victory. The top 4 were Andrews, Draper, Williams and Kovar.

This was Andrews’ second win of the season at Eagle Raceway and helped keep him atop the points leader board. “Yep, number 2. We were able to get that one finally! It was almost exactly the same track as when we got the first one. There was a little bit of grip if you angled right coming out of 3 & 4 and there was almost a little curb in 1 and 2. If you hit that right you could shoot off of it pretty good. For the most part there weren’t any dips and stuff. Whatever Roger did to the track tonight I thought it was great!! Hopefully, we can finish out the season in first placed but first off we need to decide what our new baby girl decides. She’s due this week. My wife is aiming for tomorrow or Monday so we’re hoping and praying that is what happens”. Matt’s sponsors include John Bonta Skytop Towers, Raymond Contracting,  Big Red Lawn Care, JM Billiards, All Pro, PBS Rentals and Strategic EMS.

The Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stock finale saw the first start attempt called back when Kile Casteel looped the 18K. The 94 of Mike Hansen, Tim LaPointe’s 18 and Tyler Jackson’s 13T were caught up in the spin and headed to the pits as Dave Carter’s 2C was towed off the racing surface. The top 4 on lap 1 were Jeff Watts in the 66, Brandon Fisher’s 25, Ryan Gilland in the 46 and the 24R of Dillon Richards. Richards passed Gilland on lap 2 and moved to second the next time around. Richards passed Watts for the lead on lap 5. Michael Wade put the #12 into fourth on lap 8. The top 4 remained unchanged from there to the checkers with Richards winning, Watts second, Gilland third and Wade fourth.

Dillon left before he could be interviewed.

The beginning lap of the feature for the Nebraska Lottery IMCA Modifieds was led by the 8C of Chad Andersen followed by Rik Gropp in the V45, Aaron Pella’s 3A and Nate Thompson in the 3T. Clint Homan passed Thompson on lap 2, putting the 27 into fourth and took third the following circuit. Lap 4 saw Jordan Grabouski got past Thompson on lap 4 and took over fourth. Homan went extremely high on lap 7, allowing Grabouski to move up to third. Bob Zoubek joined the top 4 the next time around in the 5S. Grabouski advanced to second with 10 to go and took over the lead 2 circuits later. There were just 3 laps remaining when James Messenbrink spun the 33M in turn 4 and the yellow lights were lit in the corners. Zoubek made the final change in the top 4 when he advanced to third. The top 4 were Grabouski, Andersen, Zoubek and Gropp.

Jordan left immediately after this race to attend a wedding reception.

Doug Lovegrove’s 55 and the 11 of Toby Chapman came to a halt on lap 1 of the Twin Rivers IMCA Racesaver Sprint Car A Feature to halt the action before it could begin. Brandon Horton’s 1B led lap 1 with Ryan Kitchen in the 91K, Mitchell Moore’s 57 and the 76 of Jay Russell close behind. Kitchen passed Horton for the lead on lap 3 as Jason Danley put the 4X into fourth. Danley advanced to third on lap 7 but lost the spot back to Moore 3 laps later. Chapman  again spun out in turn 2 on lap 11 for another caution. Danley regained third on the restart and moved up to second place with 10 to go. The next circuit saw Russell move back into fourth place. Jake Galusha looped the 8B at the bottom of turns 1 & 2 with 8 to go for yet another caution. Joey Danley put the 14 into fourth with 2 to go making the final top 4 Kitchen, Jason Danley, Horton and Joey Danley.

Ryan is the son of local racing legend Regan Kitchen. This was Ryan’s first ever victory. Ryan related “I don’t know why it has taken so long to get one, but we never ever give up so that was the main thing tonight. We had problems at Oskaloosa Monday when the motor wasn’t running well and leaking oil. It was leaking oil tonight in the heat race but we decided that we were going to go ahead and run it. We did what we had to do and didn’t give up. We started second row inside and I was actually surprised that the bottom wad going to be as good as it was. We stayed down there the first three or four laps but when I caught up to lapped traffic I didn’t have a choice but to move to the top. Once I got up there I only saw Jason Danley one time and that was on that restart so I knew it was probably faster up there so I just stuck to the top. I can’t thank Adam Gullion enough for giving me the opportunity to run this car. As well as everybody that helps keep us racing . Without our sponsors I wouldn’t even be in this car”. Ryan’s sponsors include AGR, Breakout Graphics, Brenning Painting, King Racing, Precise Roofing, Midwest Petroleum and Speedway Motors.
