2024 Mini E/Eagle Banquet Recap

This past Saturday the annual Eagle Raceway banquet was held at the Sandhills Global Event Center. This happens every January as both a chance to salute the accomplishments the drivers garnered the previous season and the opportunity to get together with our extended racing family mid-way through the off season.

This year it was made even more special when Roger and Racine decided to combine Mini E Raceway’s and Eagle Raceway’s banquets in order to award the younger racers who hopefully will be the ones moving up to the big track one day and the more seasoned competitors from Saturday nights together in one ceremony.

The new format was an enormous success with over 650 racers, crew, families, and fans filling the room.

As always, the evening started with the invocation and the National Anthem, this time with recordings of both by Stan Cisar. Stan was the ‘Voice of the Speedway’ for many many years and passed away this past year.

Roger then updated us all on a couple of the changes coming in 2025. New light poles have replaced the brittle old poles and the lighting at the track is being upgraded with new energy efficient units. Eagle Raceway and Beatrice Speedway will be teaming up to provide a joint points fund for the modified class since they are the only two tracks in Nebraska running that class every week. MyRacePass will be utilized this season due to demand by fans and drivers. The campground to the south will be worked on before and throughout the season and there are hopes to have it completed by RaceSaver Nationals if all goes well. Each weekly class will have between 3-4 draw/redraw nights in 2025 on weekly points nights with additional purse money added. The order of events and start times may vary from week to week. There will be more to come, so be sure to follow the Facebook page and website.

Then we were all treated to a fabulous meal of roast beef with all the trimmings.

Finally, the festivities kicked off in earnest with the presentation of awards for the drivers in all classes. Each gokart driver that raced 75% or more of the races that finished top 20 in points was recognized as were the top 20 in points from every class that raced on the big track. Additional awards were given out from Best Looking Car to the Homer Simpson award that went to Roger Hadan for wrecking his son-in-law’s sprint car before the season even started.

For me, it was another in a long line of must attend events that helps tide us all over until we can get our racing fix in April.
